PRACTICUM

Peer Coaching

Overview

Develop your coaching skills and experience hours with barter and/or pro bono coaching with your ICA peers.

The opportunity to experience coaching is invaluable.  With peer coaching you will put theory into practice, trialing, refining and adapting the coaching skills and techniques you learn throughout your studies. It’s also an excellent opportunity to develop networks and friendships that will continue long after you graduate.

Requirements

Peer Coaching

Peer Coaching involves partnering with an ICA colleague to practice your coaching. This may be one way (ie you are the coach and they are the client, or vice versa) or it may be reciprocal (you take it in turns to coach).

Guidelines

Peer Coaching is a requirement for your ICA Graduation and can include Pro Bono, Reciprocal, or Barter Coaching.  It cannot include Coaching for monetary exchange.

  • Pro Bono Coaching (Unpaid Hours)
Pro bono coaching is when you provide Coaching services without payment or any expectation of coaching in return.
  • Reciprocal Coaching (Paid Hours)
Reciprocal coaching is where there is an exchange of coaching services between peers, of equal value. For example: one hour spent coaching is balanced by one hour spent being coached with the same client.
  • Barter Coaching (Paid Hours)
Barter Coaching involves the exchange of Coaching in return for services or products of the same

ICF Coaching Experience Hours

Your Pro bono, reciprocal and barter hours accrued during your studied with ICA can count towards the coaching experience hours needed to achieve an ICF Credential. This is because they happen outside the classroom and are in addition to the core program hours.
